Delete your Geek Chess online account
Geek Chess is provided by Appdevelz UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Waldstraße 7a, 82319 Starnberg, Germany. This page explains how to delete your Geek Chess online account and the data linked to it, and what is kept for a limited time. You do not need the game to request deletion. Uninstalling the game does not delete an online account.
How to delete your account
Request deletion by email. This works for every Geek Chess online account, including one whose email address is not verified or that has no online access.
Write from the email address of your account to helpdesk@srogersdevelopment.com with the subject "Delete account" and include your username if you chose one. We reply only to that address and ask you to confirm the request from there. If you no longer have access to it, say so in your email; we then compare several details about the account with what you tell us; a username or other information that other players can see is not enough on its own. We never ask for ID copies, passwords or dates of birth, and we do not tell anyone else whether an account exists. Please do not send passwords, sign-in codes or ID copies. We complete the deletion within one month of your confirmed request and confirm completion to you by email. This route also works if you have uninstalled the game or can no longer sign in. Afterwards, sign out in the game to remove the sign-in key from your device (on Android, uninstalling the app also removes it).
A pending request is not a completed deletion. We confirm only a completed deletion.
What is deleted
- Your account at Firebase Authentication (Google): your email address, your password, a linked Google sign-in and the sign-in times stored with the account.
- Your username, which becomes available for reuse, your profile, rating and statistics, and your leaderboard entry.
- Friends, friend requests, blocks, lobby invitations and your online status.
- Friend messages in both directions, the lobby messages you sent, and the match chat and emotes of your matches.
- Your match history and replays.
- Your age and country confirmations and your record of accepted terms.
Deletion ends any active online match once as a resignation, with the match's existing result and rating rules. Offline games, lesson progress and settings are kept on your device and are not deleted with your online account; on Android, uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes them from the device.
What is kept, for how long and why
- Only opponents' own results and statistics may remain, with the former player shown as Deleted player and without that player's account ID, username or email. A replay is removed if it cannot safely meet that rule.
- Narrowly necessary moderation evidence may remain under restricted access for up to 30 days from the report's creation. Deleting an account or closing a report does not restart that period. Your account reference in it is replaced.
- If a moderation decision concerned you, we keep a short note of it without message text for 6 months after the decision, so that a review can still be requested.
- If we have reported a threat to life or safety to the police, or an authority has asked us for records, we keep only the evidence concerned until the matter is settled and for at most 90 days from the report's creation.
- A minimal pseudonymous deletion guard and operation state prevent old sessions or late requests from recreating deleted data; they are not anonymous and have a separate retention policy. They contain no messages, username or email address. During testing, the minimal completed guard has no automatic expiry and its necessity is reviewed afterwards. Pending recovery remains until resolved. A record of any step we take to complete an interrupted deletion is kept for 30 days after the deletion is complete.
- Your deletion request and our emails about it: until 30 days after the request is closed.
When one of the periods above ends, we stop using the information. It is then finally deleted within 10 days: on our server by our cleanup, and outside our server, for example in our support mailbox or case notes, by us.
Copies at Google follow Google's periods: Firebase keeps logged sign-in IP addresses for a few weeks and removes other authentication data from its live and backup systems within 180 days after deletion. Our Google Cloud logs are kept for 30 days, and required audit logs for 400 days.
